Square Enix announced a North American and European release for #NieRReincarnation at #TGS2020. It’s headed to the West, but appears to be a spin-off ‘gacha’ game, rather than a true sequel to either Nier or Nier: Automata. Alongside the Nier remake, publisher Square Enix is capitalizing on the series’ new popularity with another title called Nier Reincarnation. It was hugely successful, selling over 4.8 million copies, and revitalized interest in the broader franchise. The new version of Nier Replicant follows Nier: Automata, a loose sequel that was released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Several voice actors also noted that they have more lines in the new version. Toylogic, a Japanese developer that also worked on The Evil Within and Kid Icarus: Uprising, showed off some combat that appeared to be more action-oriented. The remaster is more than a visual makeover, though. In addition, superfans in Japan can pre-order a special White Snow Edition that includes the soundtrack, some pin badges and a set of books that cover the game’s complete voiceover script. We already got a news report about DoD 1’s ending, honestly if they aren’t going to remake/remaster DoD for modern audiences to play, to see where NieR stems from. The team then confirmed the Japanese launch date, April 22nd, and the worldwide release date for PC players, which will be April 24th. A community for the Nier/Nier Automata & Drakengard trilogy. The presentation started, however, with a sneak peek at some empty environments from the game. The game had two versions in Japan: Nier Gestalt on Xbox 360, which featured a more rugged and muscular protagonist, and Nier Replicant on PlayStation 3, with changed his design and relationships with select characters. It was a spin-off from the Drakengard series and followed the skilled fighter Nier as he searched for a cure that could save his sickly daughter. The cult classic, directed by Yoko Taro, was first released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. I played Drakengard 3 in emulation this year, and while Im glad I did it, Id never play it a second time. This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Drakengard series. This was also the way it's worked with the original Nier. One amusing question that came up asked Taro why doesn't the game have an autosave feature, despite being called "Automata." His answer was that save stations are a staple of JRPGs that he wanted to keep. Its technically awkward, hard to look at, and sometimes tedious to play. Like with many of his other answers, he also said that money will make them do anything and asked fans to reach out to Square Enix if they want this to happen. The director also confirmed that a photomode is not currently being planned for the game, though given funding, it could be added later.Įlsewhere in the session, Taro said that although many fans have been wanting this, a Drakengard remastered collection is not currently in the works. He added that fans shouldn't anticipate The Witcher 3-style DLC content because Automata has no budget or manpower for that sort of DLC. Automata even includes several nods to Nier and other Drakengard games. The game director touched on a couple of interesting topics during the Q&A.įor instance, when asked if Nier Automata will ever get any meaty DLC content, Taro said that no DLC of that sort is planned.
